It was only after the death of Johann Strauss (jun.) in 1899 that these two waltzes were discovered – left as part of his estate. As well as the ‘Abschiedswalzer’, the ‘Ischler Walzer’ can certainly be regarded as a homage to his beloved Ischl, where he used to spend his summers. This volume offers two intriguing examples of the finesse with which the ‘King of Waltz’ made this dance a prestigious work of art particularly with regard to form, rhythm and melody.
